Rainy Days and Wednesdays always get me down...and also make me not want to run...

So, we decided to enroll ourselves and Matilda in "advanced obedience" training.  This will not bring back the 20 pairs of shoes she has eaten in the almost 2 years that we've had her, but it WILL hopefully end in a "K9 Good Citizen Award."  So, there's that.  Fill does not need advanced obedience training, she is really old, and perfect, so we didn't enroll her.  It's not that we don't love her.

Anyway.

So, we had the orientation class tonight at 7:00.  That meant I had to get home super-quick from work to go get my run on, so I could shower up ready to leave home at 6:30.  Luckily, we have an abbreviated workday, so get to leave around 4-ish.  So, I scooted out of work super quick - thankfully the fire that started about 3:45 was relatively quickly squelched.

So, all on schedule for a good run, and time to eat and stretch and shower before orientation.  Sad news:  rain.  I do not run in the rain.  I am a prissy princess when it comes to that.  I don't like it when my toes get "squishy" - plus, the chub rub is way worse in the rain.  ("Chub rub" to be defined and expounded upon at a later date.).  I had a decision to make.  Don't run - skip a training session just 3 days into my program (boo!) or just wait to do the run when I get home from the class - in the dark.  (boo!)

Well, I finally decided to go ahead and blow it off.  It's surprisingly easy to come to terms with that once you just do it - or maybe that's just me.  Then, darn that rain!  It went and stopped.  So, now I had another decision: do the run, have slightly less time to eat and get smelly good again, or just proceed with being a lazy sack.

After a lot of internal dialog, I decided to do the right thing and go for the dad-blamed run.  It was hot, humid, gross, but.... good.  Weird.

So, all of that to say:  I did it, and I am awesome.

It was a lactic threshold training day - here's how that plays:

  • 40% at recovery pace
  • 25% at lactic threshold pace
  • 10% at recovery
  • 25% at lactic threshold.
So, here are the stats:

Time: 5:00pm
Temp: real freaking hot
Conditions: somewhere between ick and ewww - roughly 200% humidity

Tomorrow: 30 minutes at just a normal pace - hopefully with Matlida, unless it's too hot.
